GDC Europe 2010 – Slides

Yesterday I gave a lecture at GDC Europe here in Cologne entitled Global Agile Game Development: No Passport Required.   The talk was extremely well received and I’d like to thank everyone who attended,  I don’t think there was a single empty seat in the hall.

Above is a link to the slides from the lecture.  If you attended the lecture then feel free to contact me if you have any questions or you can just post here in the comments section.

    Hi Alli,

I’ve attended your talk “Global Agile Development: No Passport Required” and I would like to know how do you compute the points for a feature?

You had one slide for a specific feature, where the team presented the points they think they need for the feature and I have to admit I don’t really understand how they are computed. We do use some parts of Scrum at work too but we compute the effort needed by a feature with hours or days.

I would also like to ask if you could upload the presentation, as a real presentation with all the effects etc., and upload the videos or at least post a link to them?

Thanks again for your talk and the effort.

    Best regards
    Michael

    Hi Michael.

At CCP story points are hardly ever computed into hours or days. They are a relative measure of size or effort and only relative to other stories estimated by the same team. One story point may therefore not mean the same thing to one team as it does to another.

Mike Cohn, the guy that wrote the book on User Stories as well as other great books, at some point posted to his blog an interesting article on relationships between story points and time, it might be interesting to you too: http://blog.mountaingoatsoftware.com/how-do-story-points-relate-to-hours

Regarding the presentation then I as a rule don’t upload the PPT files on the internet but I will be happy to email you a copy. The time lapse video in the presentation however is on You Tube and can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMtv1zDUxvo

    Best Regards,

    Hi Alli,

thanks for the fast replay and yes the link did help as well as the link to the video. I have to admit that I’m still unfamiliar with the whole user story thing but I’ll cover that by myself in the future.

I would also be gratefull if you could send me the ppt by mail. You should already have my address with this post :) Thanks again for that.

    Best Regards,
    Michael
